Roy Lichtenstein Centennial is being held in Vienna’s Albertina Museum
as part of an exhibition amongst other diverse exhibitions in the same
museum.
Roy Fox Lichtenstein, born on 27. Oct.1923, in Manhattan, New York, died on 29. Sep.1997 in New York University Medical Centre.
Dots
that are painting images which can be viewed as photographs shot on
high grain negatives and printed on sandy photographic papers.
They
bear dialogues like the silent movie's bubbles telling the contents of
the films and here like:” I know how you must feel Brad”, and as such
illustrations of the comics and the newspaper’s ads.
He developed
his own technique based on that of Benjamin Day’s called:” Benday Dots”,
which Benjamin used for industrial illustrations and Roy applied this
technique for connecting the art to consumption society.
Using the
imagination, they tend to build themselves on celluloids and the
canvases become projectable motion pictures on a silver screen without
leaving the canvases.
