Love Among the Ruins

A TV production directed by George Cukor in 1975.

Kathrine Hepburn as the accused Jessica Medlicott and Laurence Olivier as the barrister Sir Arthur Granville-Jones meet after 40 years.

In 1911, the Modern Era is replacing the Edwardian's as Jessica Medlicott, a former actress of the London theatre, is accused of having kept company and promised marriage to a much younger purser and renouncing him. As a petitioner, he files a suit pursuing an amount of £50,000 in damages for breaching her promise. She commissions the prominent barrister, Sir Arthur Granville-Jones, who happens to have suffered the same ordeal 40 years ago when she led him astray and abounded him, although he was and still is in love with her.

Like a bouncing flash, it strikes at the ruins of shattered dreams, hurting feelings, affections, leaves love awaiting a response for being alive again.

Does the end justify the means? In the “Mission Endless Trilogy”, it justifies the means to achieve the success of the mission. 

Hers is to be acquitted of the case against her. May one think of her manipulations to gain the acquittal, although harmless, as the means?
